The Bureau of Ocean Management (BOEM) is poised to approve leasing millions of acres in the Chukchi Sea to oil and gas companies, putting precious Arctic wildlife at risk and dramatically speeding up climate change.
We must convince the BOEM to put the brakes on this proposal before the 12/3 deadline for public input.
Polar bears, walruses, seals, endangered bowhead whales, and countless other Arctic species are already threatened by climate change – the Arctic is warming twice as fast as the rest of the world.
Approving these leases could speed the Arctic thaw dramatically by adding 15.8 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide to our atmosphere.
